Faith of Christ Vs Mythology

THE FAITH OF CHRIST VERSUS MYTHOLOGY

Picture
We are told in the writings of the New Testament to refuse myths because they lead away men from the truth and lead to profanity and ungodliness 1 Timothy 4:7.  But we are encouraged to take heed to the faith which leads to edification – that is a building up in a moral or religious sense. The comparison made between the truth and mythology was very important in Peter and Paul’s time as much as ours and so these things are written for our warning and admonition.  Hence we can understand and appreciate Peter’s admonition to grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18.
It is evident that myth or fable cannot help one spiritually because one has to reject Truth (John 14:6) to accept or believe myths. Myths do not lead us to God but the truth does. But what are myths? They are tales; fiction or fables and they are not truth and have no historical truth to them 2 Peter 1:16.  Therefore our brethren counselled us:
  1. Not to give heed to fables which minister questions rather than godly edifying. 1 Timothy 1:4
  2. To refuse or reject old wives ‘ fables , and exercise thyself rather into godliness ( the faith gives godliness) 1 Timothy 4:7
  3. Myths cause one to turn away from the truth. 2 Timothy 4:4, Titus 1:14
  4. Follow after Christ or the truths of Christ and not after myths because Christ is real and not a fairy tale. 2 Peter 1:16
We have seen the danger of believing or dwelling on mythological knowledge, to one’s salvation.  Let us consider the benefits of the faith.
It must be understood that the faith that I speak of is not believing, confidence or trust.  The faith I speak of is the faith of Christ who is God. (Romans 3:3, James 2:1, Galatians 2:16.)  Not the believing of Jesus, nor the confidence of Jesus or the trust of or in Jesus. Faith is the word of God that is revealed by the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 11: 1, 1 Corinthians 2:9-13, 1 Corinthians 12:9, Romans 10:8)
Having seen that, let us examine the benefits of the faith.
  1. We are justified or made righteous through the faith of Christ.  Galatians 2:16, Romans 3:28
  2. The Righteousness of God is revealed through the faith.  Romans 1:17
  3.  We receive the Righteousness of God (YHWH himself) into our hearts through the faith of Christ. Romans 3:22, Philippians 3:9
  4. We are saved by Grace through the faith Ephesians 2:8,1 Peter 1:5, 1 Peter1:9
  5.  Faith keeps in mind God as God alone, He is our provider. Matthew 6:25-30, Matthew 16:6-11
  6. Faith causes us to glorify God which is the opposite of sin. Romans 4:20
  7. Faith purifies our hearts Acts 15:9
  8. Faith causes us to establish the law Romans 3:31
  9. Christ lives in us through the faith  Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 3:17
  10. We receive the Holy Spirit though the faith Galatians 3:14
  11. We become children of God by faith  Galatians 3:26
  12. We are edified in the faith 1 Timothy 1:4
The faith of Christ has numberless benefits to the believer of the faith; I just named a few of its benefits, which really show that we must live by faith or have obedience of faith to gain the benefits thereof.  On the other hand the myths cause us to be removed from the truth which we need to have peace with God.  The truth/ faith of Jesus Christ give us peace with God.  Let us follow faith …with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Amen

Not made righteous by your own works

 You CANNOT Be Made Righteous
 By Your Own Works

Picture
Although some preachers may want us to believe that there was a time (in the Old Testament) when man was made righteous by doing the works of the law, this teaching is far from the truth. No man has ever been and is justified by his own works. Abraham, David, Paul…Martin Luther- the renowned German Reformer, understood this.
In Romans 4, Paul outlines how impossible it was for Abraham to be justified before God by the deeds of the law. “…for if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God…Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Romans 4:1- 5). Abraham received justification (God in the heart) when he believed the faith of YHWH. He could do no work whatsoever to make himself righteous. In verse 7 of the same chapter, the apostle tells us that “David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness WITHOUT WORKS” (emphasis supplied). This shows that God esteems us to be righteous when we accept His faith and not when we do the works of the law with an unregenerate heart.

The plain and emphatic truth here is that no one can be changed in heart (justified) by doing the deeds of the law. The person who attempts this, would become formalistic, overbearing and pharisaical- using himself or the amount of works he does as the standard. The example of the Jews is before us. They sought to be justified by performing the deeds of the law. Obviously, they failed- miserably. They stumbled. In fact, they killed Jesus, the Author of that same law that they were claiming to keep! Thankfully, Paul, who himself was trapped in that falsehood, was rescued by Jesus Christ. He clearly explained what the problem of the pharisaical Jews was. They went about seeking to establish their own righteousness. And they did not “attained to the law of righteousness.” Why?  “Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law…”  (Romans 9: 31-32).
Jesus warns against the danger of the doctrine of righteousness by works (as held by the Scribes and Pharisees) –doing the deeds of the law as a means of bringing righteousness to oneself. He taught the disciples “…except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:20. You see, we can only be converted to enter God’s kingdom by having God Himself dwelling in our minds through faith, NOT by doing the deeds of the law.  “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto {into} all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference” Romans 3:22.
It is only by having Righteousness-God Himself (Jeremiah 23: 5 and 6) in our heart that we can have strength and motivation to do the works of the law, pleasing God. In other words, “….We establish the law” (Romans 3:31).
“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith WITHOUT THE DEEDS OF THE LAW” Romans 3:28. (Emphasis supplied). To you, who believe the false doctrine of righteousness by works, I call on you to repent of it and believe the true Gospel which teaches justification by faith alone. Let God justify you through His faith that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in you- that you may be able to keep all of His Commandments (Law) including His holy seventh-day Sabbath. Amen.

Justification in Light of Prevenient Grace

Justification as Seen in the Light of Prevenient Grace (The Calling)

Picture

Prevenient grace deals with how God calls man (before it was convenient) by temporarily removing the carnal mind (idol values) and giving man the spiritual mind. (Romans 8:6-8) Thus man has no values at that point (nihilation). (see Acts 21:40, Acts 8:30,31,34) Justification by faith which is forgiveness of sins (See Acts 13:38-39) can only be done when we repent and believe after having received the calling. This is identified in Romans 8:30 "Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified..." Thus the calling comes first followed by justification, the remission of sins. Thus when we are justified by faith we are sinfree because sin no longer exists in us as God cleanses all sin from us. (See 1 John 1:7,9)
However, if we look at 2 Timothy 1:9 it says "Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began." This scripture shows that because of the yielding to the calling of God we are saved (from sin, that is justification) [See Matthew1:21] when we, of course, repent and believe. This causes a person to therefore have the carnal mind with the idol values now permanently removed and the spiritual mind is given in place of the carnal mind, which is in subjection or obedience to the law of God. (See Romans 8:6-8, Romans 5:1,18)
With this in mind one must identify where is the location of sin. Does sin exist out of a person floating around in the air or is it inside a person? Well Paul shows the location of sin, in Romans 7:17 "...but sin dwelleth IN me." Sin, therefore, exists in a person. However, let's be even more specific. Where does the sin problem (the transgression of the law of God see 1 John 3:4) stem from inside a person?
In Mark 7:20-23 we find the location is the heart of man (the mind) "And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." In this text we confirm that the inner location of sin is the heart of man (the mind because the vessel pumping blood doesn't have thoughts). So if sin (the transgression of the law) exists in a person then we must see in the plan of salvation something that must deal with sin inside of a person, specifically with the mind of man, therefore causing them to come to the obedience of the law.
As shown previously it is justification by faith that causes a change to take place IN a person. Where in a person? The mind. This involves a change of the thoughts of a person because it was the very thoughts of man (idol values) that caused man to be defiled as shown in Mark 7:20-21. Thus when a person is justified they would no longer think after the thoughts of the flesh but after the thoughts of the spirit. (See Romans 8:5)
Therefore we can conclude that to deal with sin IN man we must have a justification by faith that is both subjective and transformative (transformation of the mind [see Romans 12:2]). This subjective and transformative justification is done not according to works, because we are not saved from sin according to our works (see 2 Timothy 1:9, Galatians 2:16, Ephesians 2:8-9) but by God (see Matt 1:21, Romans 8:33). However, it is as a result of having yielded to the (holy) calling (after repenting and believing) that is thus able to make us holy which is the purpose of God. (See 2 Peter 3:9, Ephesians 1:4)

In Summarizing:

1. Justification by faith comes after (the calling) prevenient grace.
2. Justification by faith is the forgiveness of sins. Thus justification by faith makes us sinfree.
3. Justification by faith is subjective and transformative (because sin is in us).
4. Justification is not done by works but by God only.
5. Justification makes us holy.
6. Justification causes obedience to the law of God.

7. Justification of man was a purpose of God ordained before the world began to save man from sin.

Make or Set: What's the Difference?

"Make" or "Set": What's the Difference?

Picture
One of the most quoted scriptures next to John 3:16 is John 8:32,36 KJV “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall MAKE you free…If the Son therefore shall MAKE you free, ye shall be free indeed.” However, in many Bible translations such as the New International Version (NIV), New Living Translation (NLT) and the English Standard version (ESV) etc. the word “set” is used in its place. One may ask what is the big difference if “make” is used instead of “set” or vice versa? It may seem as a little thing to overlook. However, the alteration of this one word can have grave implications to whether or not a person is saved or lost.
The Bible emphases a very important doctrine regarding the salvation of man. This is the doctrine of justification by faith that is the transformative center of the plan of salvation. Martin Luther emphasised the importance of this doctrine during the reformation as he said this is “the article with and by which the church stands, without which it falls (articulus stantis et cadentis ecclesiac).” Additionally, Luther said “This doctrine is the head and the cornerstone. It alone begets, nourishes, builds, preserves, and defends the church of God; and without it the church of God cannot exist for an hour… The article of Justification is the master and prince, the lord, the ruler, and the judge over all kinds of Doctrines; it preserves and governs all church doctrine and raises up our conscience before God. Without this article the world is in utter death and darkness. No error is so mean, so clumsy, and so outworn as not to be supremely pleasing to human reason and to seduce us if we are without the knowledge and contemplation of this article.” R.C. Sproul, Grace Unknown, pg.59-60
If we examine Titus 3:5-7 we are shown that justification (which in Latin means “to make righteous”) or as presented in the Bible is a “purification of a person” or “regeneration”, “renewing”, “washing”. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” The washing of regeneration (born again experience or new birth) is justification. This can be further confirmed in John 3:3,5-7 “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God… Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”Moreover, we are told that this justification or “washing” is a subjective transformation (inner change) that takes place involving the cleansing from sin. This can be seen in Psalm 51:2 and Ezekiel 36:25-27 “Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” Psalm 51:2 “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them” Ezekiel 36:25-27. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 it shows that this washing is justification. Ezekiel 14:3-5, Isaiah 59:2 and Mark 7:20 shows sin as idols in the heart (the mind because the organ pumping blood doesn't have thoughts) that separate us from God. “And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries...” Mark 7:20 Additionally, in both Ezekiel 36:25-27 and 2 Corinthians 5:17, we see that a new creation (justification) is taking place within the mind of a person. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
This recreation taking place within the mind involves God removing the carnal mind and the giving of the spiritual mind. (See Romans 8:6-8, Romans 5:1,18) This recreation done by God is seen as justification by faith as shown in Romans 5:1,18 and Romans 8:33 because as the person is washed from their sins they no longer have the carnal mind (or thoughts of the flesh) but will now have the spiritual mind which is life and peace. Thus they are sinfree because God cleanses all their sins when a person repents and confesses their sins. (See 1 John 1:7,9, Job 33:9) Furthermore, justification is described as being made righteous with the righteousness of God being placed into the person which the now sinfree person possesses as they would have repented and confessed their sins before. “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ into [Greek is “eis” - into] all and upon all them that believe...” Romans 3:22 Justification is also what causes a sinful human to sin no more. Thus they are sinfree (without sin or free from sin). “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be inactivated [Greek text,, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is justified [Greek text] from sin… Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord… But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.” Romans 6:6,7,11,17,18. However, if a person sins they must repent again and be justified again. (See 1 John 2:1)
Now with that understanding that justification is the recreation or new birth of a person from being in a sinful state to a sinfree state through the washing of the water which represents the word (See Ephesians 5:26) we can now assess the significance of the words “make” and “set.” We must however keep in mind that this freedom or liberation is a freedom from sin and that to deal with sin it involves a Creator as shown in Romans 6:18, John 5:14, John 8:11, Zechariah 3:3-5 “Being then made free from sin…” Romans 6:18.
Here is the dictionary account of the verb make:
“To create; to cause to exist; to form from nothing…” Noah Webster 1828, American Dictionary of English Language
“To form (something)… or create…” Oxford English Dictionary 1844
Also here is the dictionary definition of the verb set:
“To compose (something); to institute; to establish; to found…” Noah Webster 1828, American Dictionary of English Language
However, when used in this context “set free…” means to have liberation or freedom but it does not emphasize a recreation being first established by God in justification that causes a person to experience liberation or freedom. It is simply like “setting” a prisoner free from jail but there was no change or recreation within a person.  As such we cannot and should not use “set” but instead use “make” which shows and describes the recreation or justification (subjective transformation/ inner change) done by God. This false teaching from these false manuscripts by which these bibles (NIV, ESV, NLT etc.) were created from will cause men to be lost. As such may you receive your liberation as the light from the glorious gospel enters into your heart! Amen.
